Tree & Hedge Cutting

Hedge Cutting & Tree Works unless a hazard or obstruction to pedestrian access or structures, would only take place around the Bird Nesting season, this is between September – February so as not to disturb the wildlife.

Hedging

We are able to reduce hedging in height, side up or completely remove dependant on the clients requirements.

When we are engaged to undertake tree works during the nesting season, we are required to carry out a pre-works survey. Only a suitably competent person can be responsible for this survey.

We must always assume that birds will be nesting in trees, and it is our duty to assess, record and verify that any tree works we carry out will not disturb any actively nesting birds, this also applies to neighbouring trees, we could carry out a crown lift or pollarding on a tree deemed clear, only to find that the tree next to it was home to nesting birds, who were relying on shade and shelter from the neighbouring tree, exposing them to risk from predators and the elements.

Trees can be maintained in various ways:

Crown lifting is the removal of the lowest branches and/or preparing of lower branches for future removal

Crown reduction may be used to reduce mechanical stress on individual branches or the whole tree, make the tree more suited to its immediate environment or to reduce the effects of shading and light loss, etc.

Lopping refers to the removal of large side branches (the making of vertical cuts)

Topping refers to the removal of large portions of the crown of the tree )

Pollarding is the initial removal of the top of a young tree at a prescribed height to encourage multistem branching from that point

Tree pruning may be necessary to maintain a tree in a safe condition, to remove dead branches, to promote growth, to regulate size and shape or to improve the quality of flowers, fruit or timber. Improper pruning can lead to trees becoming unsightly, diseased and or potentially dangerous.

A word of caution: many trees are legally protected. Felling or even just pruning a protected tree without permission from your Local Planning Authority may be a criminal offence.

Always check for Tree Preservation Orders or Conservation Area restrictions with your local council’s Tree Officer and/or Planning Department before carrying out any works.

All of our Equipment is maintained by our qualified staff throughout the year, it is important that blades are ground back evenly and chains sharpened to ensure an even cut.

We hold Use of Chainsaw, Tree Felling, Mobile Elevating Work Platform certificates available on request, these would be incorporated within our Health & Safety Folder issued to our Clients at the beginning of any contract works.
